The Meskwaki Nation, The Mines of Spain, and Why you Must Know Indigenous History

Gerda Preston Hartman talks about the History Finley’s Landing Park, located at 24709 Finley’s Landing Road in Dubuque County Iowa. The landing is a picturesque access point to Pool 11 north of the city of Dubuque on the Mississippi River. 

This is a wonderful 1987 vintage video with dignitaries from the past that highlights the connection between the land, its people, the Peace Corps, and various initiatives that support and preserve our invaluable natural resources and forests.

It was once a mineral oasis, where Julien Dubuque settled more than 200 years ago. Now, the scenic Mines of Spain area along the Mississippi River is an outdoor recreation destination and a place where area youth are experiencing the outdoors and learning to canoe.
